Garden Villages
I chose a building in Poole, called Merck House. I wanted to focus on biophilia, a topic I discussed for my dissertation. I am intrigued by the healing aspects biophilia can have on people's mental and physical well-being and using this research, I wanted to design a care-home facility for those with terminal illnesses and who are naturally on an end-of-life plan. The building is dementia friendly, with brightly coloured doors to eliminate way-finding which will reduce confusion.

I have used the basement and seventh floor for staff and accommodated spaces that should be hidden: kitchens, staff rooms, first aid, on-site GP offices etc.
Ground floor will hold a salon and a convenience store, both will be located near to the reception. These spaces are for those that are frail, who may not be able to go out to the local town for necessities and appointments.
